Reports to: Inclusive Education Assistant - USDC
Job Summary:
We are seeking six highly motivated and experienced Occupational Therapists (two per
settlement) to support the implementation of disability inclusive education activities in
Kyangwali, Rwamwanja, and Nakivale settlements. The successful candidates will work closely
with settlement based Inclusive Education Assistant, as well as Physiotherapists (PTs), teachers,
community members, and children with disabilities to assess learners' needs and adapt learning
environments and materials to promote inclusive education.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Assessment and Intervention: Occupational Therapist (OT) will have rehabilitation
responsibilities pertaining to fine motor activities, sensory and behavior activities.
2. Conduct assessments of learners with disabilities to identify their strengths, needs, and
rehabilitation goals.
3. Adaptation of Learning Environments: Work collaboratively with Inclusive Rehabilitation
Officers to adapt learning environments, including classrooms and school facilities, ensuring
they are accessible and inclusive for all learners.
4. Provision and Adaptation of Learning Materials: Provide and Adapt learning materials,
including educational resources and equipment, to meet the individual needs of learners with
disabilities.
5. Collaboration with Teachers: Collaborate with teachers together with the settlement-based
disability Inclusive Education Assistant to develop and implement individualized
education/learning plans (IEPs/ILPs) that incorporate occupational therapy goals and
strategies.
6. Community Engagement: Engage with community members, parents, and caregivers to
promote understanding and support for inclusive education practices.
7. Reporting and Documentation: Prepare and submit regular progress reports and maintain
accurate records of assessments, interventions, and adaptations.

Requirements:
1. Qualifications: Diploma in occupational therapy.
2. Experience: At least 2 years of experience working as an occupational therapist, preferably in
humanitarian settings, in school setting, or with children with disabilities.
3. Registration: Registered with the relevant professional body (e.g., Uganda Occupational
Therapy Association).
4. Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of occupational therapy principles, practices, and tools.
5. Communication and Interpersonal: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork
skills.
6. Language: Fluency in English and local languages (e.g., Luganda, Kiswahili, Runyakitara) is an
asset.
7. Possession of the valid riding permit is a must.

Desirable Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy or a related field.
2. Experience working with children with disabilities, refugees, internally displaced persons
(IDPs), or other vulnerable populations.
