JOB DESCRIPTION – SR Feeding Supervisor
Division: Production

Reports to: Feeding Team Lead
Grade: M1
JOB OVERVIEW:
Feed is 60-70% of the production cost, it means appropriate feeding management is one of the most important for a fish farm to have a good result. Ensuring fish gets its daily optimal ration. Feeding is not only throwing feed in the water it needs very good understanding of the fish-eating behaviour and the water parameters should be in optimum level, but this can also be acquired for a long experience and good observation of the fish.
Small fish have specific feeding requirements and require constant feeding due to the small size of their gut and the half developed digestive intestinal tract. However, if feeding is not handled properly, it has detrimental effects on water quality due to ammonia build up from uneaten, and increased BOD due to higher loading to the micro-organisms in the pond bottom. As feeding supervisor the main role is oversee the feeding of the small fish, feed logistics to the ponds training both new and old feeders as well as ensuring proper adherence to SOPs in the feeding section.
The feeding supervisor plans and organizes daily feeding schedules and strategies for the SR team depending on fish age and availability to ensure maximum growth (more than 0.4g in 3 weeks of SR).
KEY DUTIES
1. Quality and Quantity
• Quality:
o
Ensure proper feeding of fish with the right feed size based on fish size to ensure uniform growth of fish. Above 0.4g in 21 days.
Maintain water quality in fishponds via controlled feeding depending on fish response to reduce stress and maintain fish health in all the production cycles
• Quantity:
Coordinate with fry and transfer teams to ensure proper stocking of fish in hapas to limit under and stocking.
Ensure that good fish rearing practices are practiced in the SR section hatchery to ensure over 90% survivals in at this stage.
2. Communication and coordination
• Proper coordination with water quality and transfer teams to during stocking a day-to-day pond management
• Work with the data clerks to ensure that the right data about fish movements is entered into Aquamanager in a timely manner.
• Assist other departments in the hatchery as instructed by the team leader or Hatchery manager based on hatchery production requirements.
• Work with the team lead to verify with engineering team that all rearing processes and equipment maintenance is implemented in time.
2. Hardware
• Maintainace and management of all floaters going into ponds to be used by feeders.
• Maintenance of feed mixing equipment
4. Continuous Improvement
• Maintain and improve standards in the hatchery in a labour and resource cost effective way.
• Should be highly adaptable to changes in the SOP/s.
• Develop and support the culture of continuous improvement of their team by identifying high performing team members and work with the team lead to develop and effectively utilise their abilities.
• Conduct refresher trainings to old staff and update them on new processes as the hatchery management carries out continuous improvements.
• Assist and participate in hatchery research and development by participating in preparation and carrying out of feeding trials.
5. Compliance to Environment, Health & Safety Department
• Ensure proper health and safety of their team member during operations minimising work-related injuries to zero during the fish transfer activities. This includes proper usage of floaters and movement around ponds.
• Inculcate Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) principles into the team members for sustainable operation of hatchery activities following the right SOPs.
• Daily check that all SOPs (husbandry, maintenance and biosecurity) are implemented in day-to-day hatchery activities.
6. Reporting
• Prepare daily pond feeding reports.
• Maintain proper inventory of all consumables used by their team by coordinating with the stores department and informing the Feeding team lead when supplies need replenishment.
Required Technical Skills Training and Experience
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree In Aquaculture
• Good and proven leadership skills
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Work experience in a fish hatchery setup.
• Ability to swim.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral.
• Self-motivated with confidence in own technical abilities, willingness, and ability to learn new techniques and find solutions to problems.
• Ability to work with minimal or no supervision and work within a team to achieve its goals whilst maintaining a consistent high work standard.
• Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
• Good at mathematics and calculations.
• Experience and knowledge of administering first aid is an addition but not a requirement.
