Job Summary:

A Chef is responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting food to the highest standards. They work as part of a kitchen brigade to create dishes according to the restaurant's menu and recipes, ensuring consistency, quality, and speed of service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Food Preparation:
    • Prepare ingredients by washing, chopping, and marinating.
    • Cook menu items in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen staff.
    • Follow recipes and presentation specifications as set by the Head Chef.
    • Prepare and cook food for various dietary needs and allergies.
  • Kitchen Operations:
    • Operate kitchen equipment such as stoves, ovens, grills, and fryers.
    • Ensure that food is stored and handled properly to meet health and safety standards.
    • Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation, including all equipment and utensils.
    • Assist in receiving and storing deliveries.
  • Quality Control:
    • Ensure that all dishes are prepared in a timely manner and are of consistent high quality.
    • Monitor food stock levels and inform the Head Chef when supplies are low.
    • Adhere to all nutrition and sanitation regulations.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: Culinary school diploma or equivalent certification is highly desirable.
  • Experience: Proven experience as a Chef, Cook, or similar role in a professional kitchen.
  • Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
    • Understanding of health, safety, and hygiene standards in a kitchen (HACCP).
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
    • Creativity and a passion for cooking.
    • Physical stamina to stand for long periods and handle heavy kitchen equipment.
