Reports to: Inclusive Education Officer – National Level
Job Summary:
We are seeking highly motivated and experienced Inclusive Education Assistants (IEA)s to support
the implementation of disability inclusive education activities in Kyangwali, Rwamwanja, and
Nakivale settlements. The successful candidates will be guided by the Inclusive Education Officer
(IEO) from the consortium technical lead on disability inclusion (DI)/Inclusive Education (IE) and
the Programme Officer Inclusive Education of USDC based in Kampala. They will work closely with
teachers, Occupational Therapists (OTs), Physiotherapists (PTs), community members, and
children with disabilities to ensure inclusive education practices are integrated into school
activities and communities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support Inclusive Education: Work with teachers to plan and deliver inclusive lessons for all
learners, using inclusive teaching and learning methods. As needed, provide personalized
support to learners with disabilities, including development and implementation of IEPs."
2. Work with the school-based OTs and PTs to ensure children receive and use appropriate
support and assistive technologies to be enrolled and retained in inclusive schools.
3. Capacity Building: Provide training and coaching to teachers, via partners, and where
required directly (but in a partnership with the consortium partners), community members,
and parents on disability inclusive education practices.
4. Community Engagement: Engage with community members, parents, and children with
disabilities to promote inclusive education and raise awareness on disability rights.
5. Monitoring and Evaluation: Collaborate with the Inclusive Education Officer, both Consortium
and USDC, the PTs and OTs to monitor and evaluate project activities, identify areas for
improvement, and provide feedback to stakeholders.
6. Reporting: Prepare and submit regular progress reports to the USDC Programme Officer
Inclusive Education, and other stakeholders when required.
Requirements:
1. Qualifications: Diploma in Special Needs Education, Inclusive Education, or a related field.
2. Experience: At least 2 years of experience working in inclusive education related field,
preferably in humanitarian settings.
3. Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of disability inclusive education principles, practices, and
tools.
4. Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and
teamwork skills.
5. Language: Fluency in local languages (e.g., Luganda, Kiswahili, Runyakitara) and English.
6. Possession of the valid riding permit is a must.
Desirable Qualifications:
1. Degree in Special Needs Education, Inclusive Education, or a related field.
2. Experience working with children with disabilities, refugees, internally displaced persons
(IDPs), or other vulnerable populations.
