Position Description
The RIN Associate position is a unique opportunity to play a foundational role in a social enterprise that is building a vibrant RLI ecosystem in Africa. Reporting to RIN’s Africa Director, the Associate will hold primary responsibility for day-to-day management of RIN’s RLI ecosystem building program in Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda. S/he will oversee implementation of the project’s workplan and budget and will serve as a focal point for engagement with consultants, researchers and sub-contracted partners across priority countries. S/he will build partnerships with investors, incubators, entrepreneurs, government officials and other stakeholders in support of the project’s goal of expanding the field of RLI in East Africa. The Associate will also help identify, analyze, and vet potential RLIs, as well as engage and support investors who are interested in this emerging investment thematic. Finally, the Associate will work with the Africa Director to identify and pursue new opportunities to promote RLI across the continent.
Responsibilities
● Day-to-day planning and execution of an investment ecosystem-building project with partners in the private sector, government and non-profit sectors;
● Lead in-person and remote engagements with private, government and non-profit actors across multiple geographies, to produce a range of deliverables, including:
○ Partnerships with investors to use RIN’s impact framework to support RLI data collection and analysis;
○ Scaling the Refugee Technical Assistance facility, which provides assistance to large corporations seeking to engage refugees across their value chains in East Africa;
○ A series of workshops with policy makers in EA host countries to promote better private sector engagement in the implementation of pro-refugee policies;
○ Growing and shaping the RLI Community of Practice;
○ Written and multimedia communications products highlighting refugee entrepreneurship success stories;
● Maintain close communications with RIN senior management in the tracking and execution of project objectives;
● Communication and reporting with donors, partners and other external stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications + Qualities
RIN is looking for candidates with a demonstrated interest, understanding and passion for its mission, and the following qualifications and qualities:
● 5+ years of related work experience;
● Strong project management experience with an ability to supervise partners in multiple countries simultaneously, including working collaboratively with consultants, researchers, and private sector actors in emerging markets;
● Excellent communications skills, including the ability to understand and translate between government, private sector and humanitarian paradigms;
● Strong analytical, writing and editorial skills (English language fluency required);
● Demonstrated capacity to communicate, coordinate and deliver in an East African context;
● Experience in Impact Investing, Innovative Finance, or Business Development Services in emerging markets is a plus;
● Experience as a refugee or internally displaced person would be a valuable asset for this role. RIN also has a preference for citizens or residents of one of the project’s three refugee hosting countries: Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia
