Introduction
The Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi in conjunction with the Aga Khan Health Service in Uganda invites applications for the following position to be based in Kampala, Uganda.

Job Summary
The position holder will be responsible for providing professional nursing care and coordinating the delivery of oncology treatments. S/he will also ensure safe and competent management of patients undergoing chemotherapy administration and other supportive therapies for cancer patients.

Responsibilities
• Assess patients for chemotherapy to ensure their physical condition and blood parameters are satisfactory to safely receive treatment according to treatment protocols / regimes.
• Administer intravenous and oral chemotherapy, and safely dispose of Chemo contaminated material in accordance with Hospital Safety Guidelines
• Provide information regarding treatment and chemo side effects to ensure each patient is prepared for their specific treatment and elicit informed consent
• Recognize and provide psychological and emotional support to patients and their families, and be able to refer to counsellors when appropriate
• Observe infection control guidelines while caring for central venous lines, and be able to advise patients about care of those lines in the home setting
• Closely monitor patients undergoing Chemotherapy and other treatments, and be able to identify reactions/complications
• Promptly communicate any adverse reactions/ complications and participate in management of adverse reactions
• Utilize evidence-based tools in Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individualized care for inpatients
• Assess patient’s readiness for radiotherapy, through history taking and physical examination.
• Manage side effects related to radiotherapy and document accordingly following ordered plans
• Participate in centre-based nursing education, centre quality improvement Project meetings(CQIPS), quality improvement (QI) projects, audits, spot checks and skill checks

Requirements
• RN from a recognized school of nursing and Midwifery
• Certificate in Chemotherapy Administration. Higher diploma in Oncology and Palliative care is preferred
• Current licensure with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care hospital with at least 1-year experience in oncology unit
