Main purpose of the job
To manage the Directorate of Graduate Studies and Research at the University.
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities shall be to:
1. Ensure the development and implementation of the annual budget of the Directorate.
2. Coordinate the promotion of efficient and effective research, innovations and community engagement activities of the University.
3. Coordinate the promotion of efficient and effective graduate studies across the University.
4. Monitor the registration status and the progress of Graduate students at different levels.
5. Identify sources and solicit for funds to support research, innovation and Graduate programmes.
6. Manage the research output (both electronic and print) in liaison with relevant University Academic Units to increase visibility and dissemination.
7. Strengthen links with other universities and research institutions/organizations on Graduate research activities.
8. Develop, implement and periodically review the University’s research agenda.
9. Provide courses and organize workshops, seminars, symposia and conferences on research activities.
10. Manage and develop the digital Academic Record for research, students, and related staff.
11. Develop and maintain authors/researchers’ intellectual property rights, copyrights, rights management, and other legal issues, especially as they apply to primary research in various forms, in liaison with the University Librarian as mandated by the Legal Deposit Act.
12. Perform any other duties assigned by the line supervisor from time-to-time.
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
c) QUALIFICATIONS
Should have possess a PhD, Master’s and Bachelor’s (Hons) degrees in any area of specialization from a recognized higher education institution.
d) EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCES
Should have;
i) At least seven (7) years of teaching and or research experience.
ii) Excellent record of academic leadership service in an institution of not less than seven (7) years, three (3) of which should have been served at a senior level.
iii) A minimum of seven (7) publications in refereed journals within the last five years (5).
iv) Evidence of successful research grant proposals of at least USD 100,000 as a PI or Co-PI within the last three years.
v) Demonstrated record of services to the community.
vi) Supervised at least seven (7) graduate students to completion, two of whom should be at the PhD level.
