Your mission

Join War Child as our Regional Communications and Advocacy Coordinator!

Are you passionate about protecting the rights of children? War Child is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to coordinate advocacy and communications across our country programmes and global teams. Build the WCA brand and drive our policy agenda to make a real impact in the AfriCo region.

What you will do:

  • Lead the development and delivery of policy advocacy initiatives to influence key decision-makers.
  • Collaborate with country teams and the regional technical team to ensure cohesive and effective advocacy efforts.
  • Work closely with the Partnerships and Business Development team to align strategies and goals.
  • Create and implement comprehensive communication strategies aligned with country priorities and War Child Alliance goals.
  • Produce engaging content for various platforms including websites, social media, newsletters, press releases, reports, and publications.
  • Develop compelling communication materials to support fundraising campaigns, including donor education, case studies, and success stories.
  • Manage the organization's brand identity and ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets and coordinate media coverage for events and campaigns.
  • Develop and execute social media strategies to engage followers and expand reach.
  • Monitor and evaluate communication initiatives to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Create advocacy strategies and action plans and conduct stakeholder mapping.
  • Lead emergency advocacy by developing policy messages and strategic objectives.
  • Build War Child’s presence and engagement with AfriCo-based advocacy networks, forums, and regional institutions.
  • Champion the participation of local partners in humanitarian forums to ensure advocacy initiatives are built on their priorities.
  • Explore advocacy research work and develop policy positions based on data and analysis from War Child’s interventions.
  • Organize and attend media events and advocacy initiatives.
  • Analyze policy changes and trends to influence War Child’s advocacy priorities and enhance credibility and impact.
  • Prepare reports and analysis on policy topics.
  • Establish relationships with key stakeholders including governments, donors, businesses, and the media.
  • Strengthen local actors’ advocacy and communications capacity by collaborating with country teams.

Position in the Organization:

  • Part of the AfriCo Regional team (Africa + Colombia) in the War Child Alliance.
  • Strong linkages to the Global Communications unit for brand positioning and content production.
  • Collaborate with the Global Advocacy unit on organization-wide initiatives.
  • Report to the Regional Strategic Partnerships Manager.
  • Shared resource for War Child Africa + Colombia Region, working across multiple countries.
  • Frequent travel expected.

Your profile

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, BBA, or MBA/Masters preferred.
  • Education in content design and development.
  • At least five years of experience in marketing, advocacy, and communications in the East African Region preferred.
  • Skilled at advocating confidently and authoritatively with senior government and UN officials.
  • Experience working with local partners and civil society organizations.
  • Experience with child-focused organizations.
  • Experience in emergency contexts and thematic areas such as child protection, mental health, psychosocial support, education, and youth empowerment.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and passion for research.
  • Ability to balance priorities while managing multiple tasks and planning big events.
  • Ability to work in different contexts.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish/French/Arabic is desirable.

  • Location: We work with global teams with team members being based in different locations. Any country where WCA has presence in Africa Region (Uganda, DRC, CAR, South Sudan) Preference is given to applicants who reside and have valid working permits. War Child does not offer relocation.
