Purpose
The Volunteer ship exists in PELUM Uganda to implement ASNRM programmes by offering technical expertise in Agroecology and Sustainable Natural Resources Management in line with PELUM’s strategy and policies so as to contribute to realising PELUM’s goal.
Summary
The post belongs to the Agroecology & Sustainable Natural Resources Management programme. The Volunteer will support the ASNRM Manager to implement programme activities and interventions in the ASNRM programme component by providing technical support to the ASNRM programme.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Programme Planning, Development and Implementation
• Participate in the development and implementation of projects in Agroecology & Sustainable Natural Resources
• Management including new programme concepts and ideas.
• Participate in the strategic review of the Strategic Plan and ASNRM programmes to ensure their continued
• relevance in a changing environment.
• Support research on development, application and modification of ASNRM models.
• Develop and implement the ASNRM programme annual/quarterly work plans and participate in programme
• planning and review meetings.
• Implement programme activities in compliance with agreed guidelines/standards and proactively seek input from
• relevant substantive internal experts.
• Prepare periodic programme reports in line with the donor requirements in liaison with the ASNRM Manager.

2. Member’s Capacity Building
• In consultation with the Officer in charge of Membership Development and ASNRM manager, identify and propose member organisations to be considered for capacity building opportunities.
• Execute capacity building activities (trainings, learning visits, technical backstopping and mentorships) for member organisations and other partners in the areas of Agroecology & Sustainable Natural Resources Management.
• Support the preparation of the training content and materials for the capacity building including: concept notes, budgets, and other support documents.
• Participate in identifying and procuring potential resource persons to support facilitation of capacity building activities where necessary in consultation with ASNRM Programme Manager.
• Prepare reports on implemented capacity building activities.

3. Support to the Development of the ELUM Centre
• Support the Programme Manager ASNRM to operationalise the development of the ELUM Centre.
• Oversee ELUM Centre activities and provide technical advice to the ELUM Centre Operations Committee (ECOC) as a member.
• Develop workplans, Budgets and reports for the ELUM Centre in consultation with the Programme Manager

4.Other tasks and responsibilities
• Provide technical guidance, coaching, mentoring, supervision and appraisal to ELUM Centre Farm Assistants and interns.
• Support and participate in other programme area activities when required.
• Identify existing and potential funding opportunities and participate in the technical aspects of project proposal development process in collaboration with the Management Team and ASNRM Manager.
• Participate in defining programme and financial objectives, targets and monitoring processes and collect, collate and share relevant project information in line with the programme M&E framework.
• Participate in the documentation and sharing of learnings from programme implementation.
• Identify thematic advocacy issues and forward them to the advocacy Team.
• Ensure all resources under his or her care are properly deployed and utilised.
• Participate in research agendas and ensure findings inform programme designs.

In addition to individual respective tasks, all PELUM employees are expected to:
• Participate in research agendas and ensure findings inform programme designs.
• Adhere to organizational values and actively promote their application amongst colleagues.
• Undertake tasks in a creative, self-driven and innovative fashion.
• Ensure that all activities are implemented in a gender sensitive manner.
• Adhere to PELUM's policies, procedures, and performance expectations in all functions.
• Identify and implement additional tasks/ ideas of benefit to the organization (whether directly linked to one’s his/her area of interest or not).
• Any other duty and responsibility as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
The above areas will form a basis for evaluation and assessment of the volunteer’s performance to inform further considerations for engagement.

Person Specifications
Education
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Natural Resource Management, Agroecology, Environmental
• Management, Climate Change or in any other related field. Training in Project Planning and Management is highly desirable.

Technical Skills
• Ability to mobilize and utilize resources. Knowledge in Sustainable Agriculture, climate resilience and renewable energy.
• Knowledge of Agroecology. Knowledge of Project Planning and Implementation. Participatory research and documentation. Training/facilitating skills. Managing and accounting for funds and other resources.

Industry experience
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field of sustainable Agriculture, sustainable natural resources management, climate change adaptation in NGO related setting. Understanding of Agroecology- and seed systems. Good knowledge and understanding of the agricultural sector. Experience of managing grants. Experience in working with an international/interdisciplinary team.

Management skills
Ability to develop and maintain relationships with various internal and external stakeholders. Team player with positive attitude, flexible mind, and good coaching and motivational skills.

Personal qualities
Proactive. Continuous improvement mindset. Excellent analytical, critical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Open to change and ability to work in a transitional and complex organizational structure. Keen sense of ethics, integrity and commitment to PELUM's mandate. Able to multitask.
