Key Duties & Responsibilities
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Driver supports the organization's operations by ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of personnel, documents, goods, and supplies across various areas of operation. Under the direct supervision of the Procurement and Logistics Officer, the Driver follows assigned schedules to facilitate timely deliveries and transport services. Key responsibilities include the safe operation, upkeep, and general maintenance of Light for the World (LFTW) vehicles, ensuring they remain in optimal condition for organizational use.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Drive the assigned Light for the World (LFTW) vehicle safely and responsibly, ensuring that all authorized passengers and cargo are secure.
- Conduct pre-trip safety and security inspections, including checking oil, battery, water, fuel, tires, and lighting systems, to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy.
- Keep the vehicle clean, well-maintained, and in good working condition.
- Accurately maintain the vehicle logbook, recording mileage, fuel consumption, assignments, replaced parts/spares, and scheduled maintenance, as per the line manager’s guidance.
- Manage and submit relevant vehicle documentation (e.g., vehicle ledger and fuel forms) to the line manager on a monthly basis.
- Load and unload goods safely, ensuring they are well-secured during transport.
- Monitor insurance and license expiry dates and update the logistics team in advance.
- Ensure timely vehicle servicing by tracking service schedules and monitoring the next service mileage.
- Identify and report any necessary repairs to the vehicle.
- Adhere to LFTW policies and procedures, promptly reporting any anomalies, incidents, or accidents.
- Prepare and submit monthly vehicle and fuel consumption reports to the line manager.
- Comply with all road traffic regulations, including wearing seat belts and possessing a valid driving license. Drivers are responsible for any penalties incurred due to traffic violations (e.g., speeding or improper parking).
- Perform delivery and collection tasks as assigned, ensuring the vehicle is never overloaded.
- Operate the vehicle only for authorized movements, ensuring it is securely parked and locked when not in use.
- Complete the vehicle inspection checklist daily to ensure vehicle safety and readiness.
- Assist with logistics functions and undertake additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- UCE / O-Level certification.
- Should possess a valid driving license for classes B and D1(Refer to the updated classification of driving licenses) plus DL under the previous classification.
- At least five (5) years’ experience in driving in a reputable organization.
- Should possess comprehensive working knowledge on vehicle maintenance.
- Proficiency in basic computer practice is an added advantage.
- Certificate in Defensive Driving and customer care is an added advantage.
- Good communication skills.
