Background

Makerere University has received funding from the Governments of Uganda and South Korea to implement the Improvement of Makerere University Project. Makerere University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the various project staff positions.

Qualifications

An honors Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering

Requirements

Computer literate and knowledgeable in the use of standard design software, e.g., AutoCAD.

Experience

At least eight (8) years of experience, 3 of which should be as a registered Engineer with the Engineers Registration Board. Experience in undertaking similar roles for similar infrastructure projects

Roles and Responsibilities

Role: Supervise the project consultants and staff on all technical aspects.

Competencies

a) Good Communication skills;

b) Leadership and interpersonal skills;

c) Proficient in using relevant computer packages;

d) Teamwork and team building;

e) High integrity

Additional Notes

Applicants must be Ugandans.

Applicants for all positions must not exceed 55 years of age at the time of application.

Academic qualifications must be from recognized academic institutions.

Remuneration shall be competitive based on the project’s approved funding.

Terms of employment will be on a contract basis of 2 years.

  • Ensure that service providers comply with contractual obligations.
  • Assist in procurement planning and reporting.
  • Participate in the preparation of bid documents.
  • Participate in the evaluation of bids and proposals.
  • Review and validate architectural and engineering designs.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary design inputs (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and Plumbing (MEP).
  • Ensure that construction work complies with drawings, specifications, and codes.
  • Supervise contractors and subcontractors for technical accuracy and quality.
  • Monitor safety compliance based on national regulations and project-specific safety plans.
  • Maintain detailed site records, including daily reports, quality control logs, and test results, to ensure accurate documentation.
  • Support in preparing interim payment certificates, change orders, and technical justifications.
  • Submit timely reports to the Supervisor
