The Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC), established in 1991, is a not-for-profit indigenous medical organization in Uganda. It operates a partnership with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Defense, and Makerere University College of Health Sciences.
JCRC is implementing the USAID Local Partner Health Services (LPHS) program for the Kigezi Sub-region. The five-year project (2020-2025), funded by PEPFAR through USAID, aims to enhance the availability, accessibility, and utilization of quality HIV/TB services in the region, reaching and sustaining HIV epidemic control.
Job Summary
The Data Clerk will work closely with the facility’s leadership team to ensure that strong data quality maintenance systems are implemented. This role will focus on generating, maintaining, and submitting accurate and timely data, as well as ensuring compliance with JCRC and MoH reporting systems.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Liaise with different health unit departments to ensure completeness of various registers (e.g., ANC, Maternity, TB, ART, Family Planning, etc.).
• Work with different units to ensure accurate, complete, and timely data generation and submission to MoH and PEPFAR systems.
• Respond to data-related inquiries and requests.
• Update the national Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system from paper-based records.
• Maintain and manage data systems (EMR, DHIS2, KP/PP tracker, HIBRID) and ensure data is regularly updated.
• Ensure the maintenance of both hardcopy and electronic data files, in line with program regulations.
• Perform data entry, clean and verify program data in accordance with established protocols.
• Participate in quality improvement activities, providing data analysis and summarization for facility QI teams.
• Secure and back up patient-level data both onsite and offsite.
• Generate and compile reports on key program indicators to inform quality improvement efforts.
Qualifications and Requirements
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Quantitative Economics, Population Studies/Demography, or a related field.
• Experience: Previous experience in data management for MOH and PEPFAR systems is essential.
• Technical Skills:
o Proficient in working with government health information systems.
o Knowledge of medical records management procedures.
o Strong skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
• Other Skills:
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
o Strong attention to detail and good numeracy skills.
o Ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines.
o Familiarity with data entry, cleaning, and quality assurance procedures.
