JOB DETAILS:
Catholic Relief Services is the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States. CRS has been working in Uganda since 1965 and has a vibrant portfolio of projects, serving over a million vulnerable Ugandans and refugees each year through the Country Program 2030 Strategy. CRS programs in Uganda currently support five strategic priority areas, including Health and Social Services Systems Strengthening, Resilient Food Systems, Emergency Preparedness and Management, Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, and Local Leadership. CRS Uganda implements its programs through partnerships with local organizations, including international and local NGOs, Ugandan government departments and ministries, the Catholic Church, and community-based organizations for maximum impact and sustainability. CRS Uganda employs around 150 staff and has its main office in Kampala, with sub-offices in Yumbe, Kyangwali and Kasese.

About Project:

The Global Evergreening Alliance (GEA), of which CRS is a member, has secured a 5 year, $ 160m investment for Restore Africa Program which covers 6 Eastern and Southern Africa Countries. In Uganda, the program will be implemented by CRS (as the lead implementing organization), CARE, World Vision, ICRAF, ECOTRUST and Uganda Landcare Network with a goal of restoring 560,000ha of degraded landscapes in the West Afromontane, Mt. Elgon and part of Karamoja. The program will pursue a small holder farmer led approach to restoration supporting profitable agroforestry systems that support profitability and productivity of farms.

Job Summary:
Consequently, CRS is recruiting forestry/agroforestry volunteers under the RESAf program, for provision of technical support to implementing partners, in promoting evergreening and regenerative agriculture in targeted districts within the Country.

Responsibilities
• Provide guidance on appropriate indigenous or naturalized tree species and affordable technologies for tree growing under afforestation, reforestation (woodlot establishment), and agroforestry practices by project participants.
• Provide hands on training, sensitization, and mentorship sessions for selected community groups/Institutions/Individual participants in afforestation, agroforestry, woodlot establishment.
• Support in mobilization of community groups/project participants to implement project activities including trainings and stakeholder engagements on enterprises/livelihood activities.
• Support Implementing partners in establishment of standard and functional tree nurseries for provision of affordable quality tree seedlings for RESAf project.
• Guide project participants to access high quality equipment, tools, and materials to implement RESAf’s project activities.
• Provide regular extension and advisory services to community groups engaged in specific enterprises/livelihood improvement activities including afforestation, apiaries, and agroforestry. • Prepare and submit monthly or weekly activity plans for implementation of the RESAf project.
• Prepare and submit timely weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports to the RESAf Deputy Chief of Party.
• Undertake any other RESAf project related tasks assigned to him/her by the CoP or her designate.

Qualification and Experience
• A certificate in either forestry or Agroforestry from a recognized institution with at least 3 years of work experience, or a Diploma with at least one year’s work experience.
• A degree and either a certificate or a diploma in forestry with one-year field experience is of an added advantage.

Timelines
The duration of the assignment is three (3) months.

Location: Based in Hoima and Tororo
Reports to: The Volunteers will work closely under supervision of RESAf technical expertise.
