JOB DETAILS:
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To ensure that operational risk exposures are proactively identified; and adequately and efficiently controlled
KEY RESULT AREAS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Establish and maintain a robust risk management system to be applied in the delivery of services by SWICO
• Develop appropriate tools for monitoring operational risk exposures
• Periodically prepare plans and strategies for the effective assessment and management of risks
• Oversee the review and assessment of inherent risks associated with new and existing processes, products, systems and people; and make relevant recommendations to higher authorities
• Provide technical guidance and support to the underwriting and claims and reinsurance departments in the assessment and management of risks associated with the services they render
• Oversee the preparation of periodic and ad hoc operational risk reports
• Analyze reports on incidents of risk, draw learning lessons from them, and sensitize staff on the prevention of future occurrences of similar incidents
• Monitor and ensure that action points regarding risk incidents are implemented appropriately
• Monitor developments in the environment to identify potential risk exposures and prepare relevant risk reports to inform management of emerging risk exposures
• Undertake operational risk awareness sensitization to improve the culture of risk management
PERSON SPECIFICATION: Manager Risks
Minimum Academic and/or Professional Qualifications Necessary
• Minimum of a University Degree in Business Administration, Commerce or Social Sciences
Additional Training/Qualifications/Certification Necessary
• Possession of relevant professional qualifications such as Certified Risk Management Professional; or a professional qualification in insurance at the level of Diploma CII or its equivalent
Minimum Experience and Exposure Necessary
• 6 years of progressive work experience in risk management, audit or underwriting, with 3 of the years at a supervisor level, in reputable organizations
Key Knowledge Required
• Principles of risk management
• Good knowledge of the insurance industry
• Principles, theory and practice of insurance
• Knowledge of management information systems
